Dads have a myriad of different, shining personalities. Whether your dad is super extroverted and loves having his schedule packed full, or is more of a silent, steadfast family man, this Father’s Day, let’s celebrate every dad – our family’s heroes!
This year, we asked our colleagues to share some of their heartwarming and haha-larious stories to show Dad just how much we appreciate him. Steady yourself for a rollercoaster of serious dad-ication, the best dad jokes ever told, and heartfelt words of affirmation for our dads. And hey! You may just be inspired with plans for Father’s Day this 16th of June! Without further ado, let’s dive in!
#1 If you had a day out to spend with your dad, what would you do?
“If I had a day out to spend with my dad, I would take him fishing! Fishing has always been my dad’s favourite activity.
The patience of waiting and the thrill of catching something is something he loves and shares with me whilst we share yummy snacks and have some heart-to-heart talk. =)
Ideally, if I had enough budget, I always wanted to rent a boat in SG, or better still, go sea fishing overseas!”
Our dads may have different hobbies and pastimes, but one thing is for sure – they love spending time with their children. Though not every dad may be used to sharing deeply from the heart, it may surprise you to know how dads will share a peek into their inner dad’s world as we share hobbies and create new memories with them.
This Father’s Day, are there ways you can share some quality time with Dad within your means? 😊 Find something Dad loves to do and schedule a time on 16th June to bring him out on a family trip!
#2 Tell me the best Dad joke you’ve heard!
Here are some dad jokes we’ve gathered from our colleagues. In no particular order, starting with…
Dad Joke 1:
Abigail: What is the oldest animal on earth?
All our colleagues: Lion? Panda? Tiger? Because it’s 老虎?
Abigail: Nooo, it’s Zebra! Because it’s black and white!
Colleague: Eh, but pandas are also black and white!
Abigail (after some googling): Oh, here it says pandas are more yellow. 😂
Dad Joke 2:
Clara: Best Dad joke? Oh no, there are just so many… Okay I have one. What’s the heaviest kind of food to eat?
…
…
“WANTON!” 🤣
If these Dad jokes have left you wanton (wanting) for more, this Father’s Day, ask your dad for his best dad joke and share some with him! Who knows, you might just find Dad’s humour thoroughly infectious…
#3 What’s a favourite memory you have with Dad?
“My paternal grandfather taught my Dad and I how to eat french fries with ice cream when I was younger, so we used to eat it a lot before Dad dropped me off at kindergarten last time.
Recently, during the public holiday I went for a swim at the nearby community centre and just happened to eat McDonalds with Dad after, so we picked up our french fries and ice cream ‘family tradition’ again that day after a while. It was nice to spend some relaxing time together without needing to rush around! 😊”
Are there any special ‘family traditions’ that your family bonds together? Especially for working adults, life can get busy, and the main quality time that we get to spend together with Dad is at early breakfasts, dinners or over the weekends.
What is one childhood memory you have with Dad that you’d like to relive in a fresh, new bonding experience with Dad this Father’s Day?
#4 Share some ways you and Dad show care for each other.
Julia: “My dad may not always be the best with words, but I know he shows his care through his acts of service. When I’m feeling sick, he always cooks me a healthy bowl of meesua soup, which is super comforting and yummy.
It’s the daily things that he does for me and the family that really warms my heart. More than that, I’m thankful for his presence and dedication in providing for the family over the years. We love durian, so getting some to share would make him really happy! And probably some mangosteens after too.”
Abigail: “Oh, to show Dad care, I’d buy him a table of his favourite food hahaha, like char kway teow, popiah, satay, oyster omelette, and carrot cake!”
Many of our dads are definitely foodies! 🥳 What are the ways that your Dad shows your care in your daily life? It’s often their seemingly small sacrifices that we can’t do without. This Father’s Day, why not take some time to make a list of things you’re grateful for towards Dad, and perhaps pick a few out to share with him?
Also, why not bring him and the family out for his favourite food? Let Dad feast to his heart’s delight as you show him how much you appreciate him.
#5 This Father’s Day, is there something you want to tell Dad that you wouldn’t normally say?
“Dear Dad, thank you for providing for the family, for being my confidante when life got tough and when it still does.
I’m grateful for all your funny jokes and messages you send when you see something that makes you laugh online! Life is brighter with you in it, and I’m very blessed to have you as my dad.”
Every family is different. Some of us are more comfortable sharing with our Dads or Mums, though we love them all the same. Whether you and Dad often share heart-to-hearts, or tend to show your love through actions, just like Dad does, let’s take some time this Father’s Day to affirm our fathers with our words.
Conversations and Quality Time with Dad
